S T A T E M E N T

Ephemeral gestures of the body, emotion, light, limb, landscape, and season offer a microcosmic celebration of the truth. Everything is temporary, everything is transmittable, all things are in a state of becoming.

Landscape photography, improvisational dance and theater, performance, floral sculpture, and immersive events are the mediums in which I’ve worked, investigated, and payed homage to the fleeting nature of things.

In my work, I aim to encircle and light the unattainable : the human spirit, the interconnectedness of all things, eternal time. Big things. Captured in small moments and layers of expression.

My background as landscape photographer, performer, director, and dancer led me to the medium of video where I can express the time-based dynamics of dance and play with the elastic nature of time. Working with the earth’s elements and human movement, I mean to convey the expansive and eternal, the beauty and potency of a moment in time.

Nature's elements are characters in my work as much as people. They offer a universal and archetypal voice. Wind, water, light, landscape are constant characters, each with their distinctive tenor of expression. My first and only church is the natural world, and my hope is to offer an experience of harmony and reverence that is transmitted rather than spoken.

For me, nothing speaks to the human experience more than a body in motion. The body is our home and our truth-teller. It speaks in a language that transcends words. My intention with using movement in video is to connect the viewer to their own humanity, fragile and powerful. My wish is for a feeling of connection; the grace found in these movers lives in us all.

My latest work of video projections onto people and places, gives me a new voice and new stratum of expression. I am particularly interested in exploring place, memory, and porous reality. I am at the beginning of this journey and look forward to going deeper into the elastic nature of this medium.
